Cargo Associations Summit

U.S. Cargo Pilots Unite to Promote Safety Measures to Safely Transport Lithium-ion Batteries

The 2023 Cargo Associations Summit was held April 24-26 in Chicago.  This year’s summit drew pilot leaders who fly for private and publicly-traded airlines across the United States and some from Canada.  In addition to pilot leaders, invited guests included former members of the U.S. Congress Transportation Committee, the FAA, Former NTSB Chairman, accident investigators, Wall Street airline analysts, media, and other industry experts.

The summit expanded on many topics from last year’s gathering, including transporting dangerous goods (lithium-ion batteries), Part 117 and fatigue risk management systems.  Cargo Facts Consulting presented statistics and an economic outlook forecast for the industry.

Participants also heard from guest speakers on other topics including Aviation Issues and Congressional Oversight, Air Cargo & Trade at the Chicago International Airport, Reduced Crew Operations, Industry Pay & Benefits, Air Safety, Safer Skies, the National Mediation Board’s Role in the Railway Labor Act, Costing Airline Labor Contracts, Future Aviation Challenges, the Pilot Supply, and open discussion in the form of a Presidents’ Roundtable. Work groups with a focus on reduced crew operations were a significant component of this year’s event.

Organizers raised nearly $2,000 for Pilots for Kids by encouraging attendees to become a member or make personal donations to the charity. We’d like to thank those organizations that donated door prizes in support of our charitable efforts: ABX Air, Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, Alaska Airlines pilots, Amerijet pilots, APA Teamsters Local 1224, Atlas Air Worldwide Holdings, Aviation Supplies & Academics, Bose, Contrail, Flight Outfitters, Kalitta Air pilots, KG Aviation, Lost Aviator Coffee, Silent Thunder Models, and Silver Airways.

Summit attendees represented 50% of all global air freight.  Pilot leadership flying for every publicly-traded cargo company in the United States attended, making this one of the largest events in the country to network with cargo airline pilot leadership and stakeholders.

Don’t miss the 2024 Summit!
